Did you know?

The song was written as a follow-up single to the successful "Satisfaction".
The Stones have said that the song is written as a reaction to their sudden popularity
After the success of "Satisfaction".
The song deals with their aversion to people's expectations of them.
Keith Richards says: "'Get off of My Cloud' was basically a response to people knocking
On our door asking us for the follow-up to 'Satisfaction'... We thought, 'At last.
We can sit back and maybe think about events.' Suddenly there's the knock at the door
And of course what came out of that was 'Get off of My Cloud'

  E           A
I live in an apartment on the
B             A           E    A B A
ninety-ninth floor of my block
And I sit at home
        A               B
looking out the window imagining
    A          E      A B A
The world has stopped
     E          A              B
Then in flies a guy who's all dressed up
       A     E     A B A
like a Union Jack
          E             A
And says, I've won five pounds
          B           A         E    A B A
if I have his kind of detergent pack

        E           Abm
I said, Hey! (hey)  You! (you)
    A          B
Get off of my cloud
E          Abm            A          B
Hey! (hey) You! (you) Get off of my cloud
E          Abm            A          B
Hey! (hey) You! (you) Get off of my cloud
Don't hang around
       B                         E     A B A
'cause two's a crowd n my cloud, baby

    E            A               B
The telephone is ringing I say, "Hi, it's me.
          A            E     A B A
Who is it there on the line?"
  E                A
A voice says, "Hi, hello,
                   B           A       E    A B A
how are you, well, I guess I'm   doin' fine"
He says, "It's three a.m.,
there's too much noise
      B                     A     E    A B A
Don't you people ever wanna go to bed?
            E           A
Just 'cause you feel so good,
                B       A         E     A B A
do you have to drive me out of my head?"

Repeat Chorus

I was sick and tired,
    A                  B
fed up with this and decided to
        A        E    A B A
Take a drive downtown
       E                 A
It was so very quiet and peaceful there
    B             A     E     A B A
was nobody, not a soul around
  E      A                  B
I laid myself out, I was so tired
       A          E    A B A
and I started to dream
       E                   A                 B
In the morning the parking tickets were just like
        A                   E    A B A
A flag stuck on my window screen
